Hi, could you give me hint were I can find the articles that can or could be moved to the yo.wiktionary.org project. Maybe there should be made a special category for those articles. [[Oníṣe:Carsrac|Carsrac]] 12:45, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Welcome to the Yoruba Wikipedia, Demmy! If you have any questions about how Wikipedia works, don't hesitate to ask me or someone else here... I don't speak Yoruba myself, but I'd like to learn it, and I am the ambassador of this Wikipedia. Belgian man 15:22, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi Demmy, a welcome from me also! Unfortunately, I don't speak Yoruba either (though I do read some). You've added a bunch of fine articles on scientific subjects lately, thanks for that! If you need any help, for example in deleting spam or some other administrative task, I might be able to help out. See you around! — mark 16:17, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi Demmy, this is just to note that I am currently on a three-month fieldtrip in Ghana, so I was unable to support your bid for adminship. Do let me know next time you want to try (use the 'email this user' function), because I will readily support you.

All the best, and thanks again for your good work around here.

Hi Demmy! I need the help of someone who knows Yoruba. The name of the German singer Ayọ (meaning 'joy' or 'joyful') is normaly written as Ayo. (with a dot at the end) in English or German articles. It is mentioned on several sites on the internet that the dot is important because without it Ayo would mean "onion" in Yoruba. However, I wasn't able to confirm this (although it is mentioned on the German version of her official website) and none of the online Yoruba dictionaries I found includes the word 'ayo' at all. An anonymous user has now edited the English article writing instead that ayo "would refer to a pitted board game popular among the Yorubas" (which seems to be supported by this website). I would be very grateful if you could maybe clearify the meaning of the Yorubian word 'ayo' (if it exists) and if it has anything to do with onions, so that the correct information can be included in this Wikipedia article.

Thanks very much! Optimale 12:39, 28 August 2007

Ayò (without the dot on o) does indeed mean game (any type of game; not just the pitted board game referred to by the anonymous). "Àlùbọ́sà" is the yoruba word for onion. Ayọ̀ (with the dotted o) of course mean joy or joyful. Demmy 16:08, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the information Demmy.
Hmm I see you write ọ̀ instead of (an additional grave accent above the o). So is Ayọ wrong and should really be Ayọ̀ (e.g. to mean joy, although the singers name seems always to be written with a dot underneath a normal o, not an ò)???
But I assume in the simplified writting Ayo. the finer detail of using o or ò gets lost anyway and the trailing dot just represents the dot underneath. So in conclusion Ayo without the trailing dot doesn't have anything to do with the word 'onion' in Yoruba and this story is just made up. Optimale 9:56, 29 August 2007

Please, could you translate this article onto the language of this Wikipedia? Thanks for your help. If you wanna translate your city onto Aragonese, Spanish, Catalonian, Galician o Asturian language, tell it to me, please. --Jeneme 12:45, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi

Dearest Demmy, how are you? I am wondering if somebody would be so kind to help me translate a short-stub version of two or three sentences of this article for the Yoruba (.yo) wikipedia? Thank you very much for any advice or help you could offer :) Gina Maraya 03:09, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello Demmy

Hi Demmy! I was wondering whether you received my message above. I am including it below just in case I committed a mistake in posting it incorrectly.

I will try and do it this weekend. Sorry for the late response. Demmy 12:13, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Good Afternoon Demmy,

Could you please write a stub http://yo.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auckland_Grammar_School - just a few sentences based on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auckland_Grammar_School? Only 2-5 sentences enough. Please. --Per Angusta 04:11, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Translations

Hi Demmy, please set Your interface here in the Special:Preferences to yo, because right now You are translating the English interface: MediaWiki:Toolbox/en (every message with .../en is from the English interface. And please make translations preferably on Betawiki (I saw You already did some translations there, thanks :) )

If You like I would also like to invite You to #wikimedia-admin, the cross-wiki coordination channel for Wikimedia administrators. Please feel free to contact me if You are interested on my meta talkpage, best regards, --birdy (:> )=| 12:06, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Cool, thanks! If You just delete MediaWiki:Tooltip-p-logo/en, MediaWiki:Toolbox/en and MediaWiki:Undeletecomment/en, then the English interface names will be restored (for those only who use the English setting in the preferences), best regards, --birdy (:> )=| 13:46, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Demmy! I see you are doing more translations here than on Betawiki. Birdy said this, but I want to say it again; please translate on Betawiki. The only disadvantage is that you will see it over a few days, not immediately. For the rest, there are only advantages: You can use the Betawiki translations on every MediaWiki wiki, this includes every Wikimedia wiki! Thank you very much, SPQRobin 17:13, 9 February 2008 (UTC) (btw, if you want to answer, you can do it here)

Ok. I didn't know they were different. I will switch then. thanks demmy 17:21, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Thank you! If you want to know more about the differences between translating here and translating on betawiki, see betawiki:Translating:Why use Betawiki. By the way, if you like statistics, you can view them on betawiki:Translating:Group statistics. Greetings, SPQRobin 23:08, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Diacriticals

pls explain your reversions. I think it is inappropriate. If u are worried that people cannot type Yoruba diacritics when searching for a page, that is why we have a redirects, check for example Naijiria, u notice please that u still reach the intended page. --Alanafe 19:18, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Objection to adminship

Hi demmy, why you objected to my admin, we need admin to help fix this wiki? I not objected to ur admin, so why you to object to mine, please do not. Thanks. --Alanafe

Can you point to where I objected to your adminship?

I would tend to not granting access." in reference to your comment. --Alanafe 11:12, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Iam sorry the stewards read my post (which was intended for you) wrongly. I had made that known to them so I hope they'll reconsider. Good luck demmy 13:59, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Thank you Demmy, I look forward to work together with you. --Alanafe 21:23, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Pages to delete

Hi Demmy, I noticed many of the non-encyclopedic pages created by Professor Adewole had the word "ISBN" in them so I search for it. [1] in fact it is a good list of articles we must delete. We must be careful though as some articles can be save, for example please view [2] --Alanafe 14:31, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Interwiki Bot's

Could you please be so kind to give user:Escarbot User:TXiKiBoT User:Thijs!bot User:VolkovBot User:CarsracBot User:JAnDbot] the bot status. Or ask someone that can very nicely. Because it look like those editors are done the most of the editing. Beside myself and what I do a bot could do better :) Carsrac 21:24, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Update it is a work in progress and some of the bots on this already have a bot flag. An up to date list is on my talk page. With a few exception they are all very well know bot's with a lot of bots flags on other wiki's. The unknow are CarsracBot and JAnDbot Carsrac 10:23, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Because there is no reaction or should I say interest. I have placed the request on meta. Carsrac 10:13, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

    • I think its better there at meta, because we have no beaurecrat here. Of course I would love to give bot approval if I knew how its done. demmy 13:02, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
      • The technical thing of giving flags are done by the steward, but they want to have local advice (read approval) for the flag. And that is what I was asking. CarsracBot 10:58, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Category:Candidates for speedy deletion

Could take a look at this category and translate it in yo and take care that it is emptied regulary. For the time being make it bilanguagal ;) And Template:delete maybe should also be translated. If there is already a local variant of it say it and I will use it next time. Carsrac 20:21, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi

How are you, Demmy?

I would like to know if you would please help me as so to improve this fascinating, albeit short, article that has changed title on so many numerous occasions but has yet to grow enough from the English translation.

A friendly hug!

Bot policy

Hello. To facilitate steward granting of bot access, I suggest implementing the standard bot policy on this wiki. This will involve creating a redirect to this page from Project:Bot policy, and adding a line at the top noting that it is used here. In particular, this policy allows automatic acceptance of known interlanguage linking bots (if this page says that is acceptable), which form the vast majority of such requests.

Please read the text at m:Bot policy before commenting. If you object, please say so; it will be implemented in one week if there is no objection, since it is particularly written to streamline bot requests on wikis with little or no community interested in bot access requests. Carsrac 11:13, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Done. —Pathoschild 04:49:43, 07 June 2008 (UTC)

invitation

As an Administrator, you are allowed into #wikimedia-admin, the cross-wiki coordination channel for Wikimedia administrators. Any member of the channel can invite you in temporarily, but you need an invite exemption from a channel operator to get in whenever you want. Please come to #wikimedia and ask for an invite.

Any admin from any project is welcome and it is a good place for cross-wiki coordination of vandal and spam fighting. It is also useful for new admins to contact more experienced admins in real-time to get help with the more complicated admin tasks such as history merges/splits and importing via Special:Import.

Please remember to translate the interface at betawiki: only and to upload images preferably at commons:

Thank you

Best regards, --birdy (:> )=| 10:41, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

The translation request

The translation request
Hi! Could I ask you to translate the article which you can find below into Yoruba? Please help me to show our language to the world – the article is quite short and has been selected from English and Silesian article and shortened as possible to contain only the basic informations. If you would finish, please, make me know on my Silesian or Polish discussion. Thanks in advance.
PS. If you want me to translate any article into Polish or Silesian, contact me without hesistation.
So, here’s the text to translation:

The Silesian language (Silesian: ślůnsko godka, ślůnski, sometimes also pů našymu) is a language spoken by people in the Upper Silesia region in Poland, but also in Czech Republic and Germany. In 2002 about 56 000 declared Silesian as their native language, but the number of speakers is estimated on 1 250 000.

Silesian is closely related to Polish language, that’s why it is considered as a dialect of Polish by some linguistics.

Alphabet

There’s not one Silesian alphabet. The Silesian speakers are used to write their language with the Polish characters. In 2006 was invented the new Silesian alphabet, based on all of the Silesian scripts (there’s 10 of them). It is widely used on the Internet, as well as in the Silesian Wikipedia.

Aa Bb Cc Ćć Čč Dd Ee Ff Gg Hh Ii Jj Kk Ll Mm Nn Ńń Oo Pp Rr Řř Ss Śś Šš Tt Uu Ůů Ww Yy Zz Źź Žž

And some digraphs: Ch Dz Dź Dž.
