Battle of Normandy

Landing ships putting ashore on Omaha Beach, at low tide during the first days of the Battle of Normandy, mid-June, 1944. Note the barrage balloons overhead and U.S. Army "half-track" convoy forming up on the beach. Over sixty years later, the Normandy landing still remains the largest seaborne invasion in history, with almost three million troops crossing the English Channel.
