An adult Large Brown Mantid (Archimantis latistyla), one of over 2,000 species of praying mantis found throughout Asia, Europe, and North America. Named for their typical "prayer-like" stance, mantids are carnivorous insects that prey on other insects, although larger mantids have been known to consume small reptiles and even small mammals or birds.
