Ọdún Afan jé ayẹyẹ ọdọọdún tí wọ́n máa ń ṣe ní gbogbo ọjọ́ kìíní oṣú kìíní. Àwọn Oegworok, tí wọ́n wá láti apá Gúúsù ilẹ̀ Kaduna, ní Nàìjíríà.[1] Á ti tó ọ̀ọ́dúnrun ọdún tí wọ́n ti í ṣe é bọ̀. [2] Ayẹyẹ náà máa ń wáyé ní gbogbo ọjọ́ kìíní, oṣù kìíní, ní ààfin olóyè Kagoro ní ìjọba ìpínlẹ̀ Kaura.[3]

The Gworok (Kagoro) Hills

Wúnrẹ̀n náà "Afan" túnmọ̀ sí "orí-òkè". Ní ìbẹ̀rẹ̀pẹ̀pẹ̀, àwọn èèyàn Afan máa ń gbé lórí àpáta àti inú ihò àpáta.[4][5][6][7]

Nínú àṣà wọn, ọdún Afan máa ń tọ́ka ìparí ọdún ìkórè kan fún ọdún náà.[3][6] Gẹ́gẹ́ bí Achi ṣe sọ nínú Achi et Al (2019), ayẹyẹ Afan náà tí àwọn Agworok máa ń ṣe jẹ́ èyí tí wọ́n máa ń ṣe ní ọjọ́ àbámẹ́ta tó ṣìkejì nínú oṣù kẹrin lọ́dọọdún. Wọn ò mọ ọdún tí ayẹyẹ yìí bẹ̀rẹ̀ n í pàtó àmọ́, wọ́n gbàgbọ́ pé ayẹyẹ náà kọ́kọ́ wáyé ní 1500 A.D.[6]

Á̠ shyio usa̠rag

Á̠ nat uyit, á̠ bai bi̠ nyam.

Za̠m!

Also styled: Uza u nwuak kai nda; Oe ti̠n ufa ci̠p; Oe shyio usarag Oe nat uyit, oe bai bi̠ nyam. Zoem!

Translation

"May God Almighty provide us with His peace;

Deliver us from misfortune;

Bountifully multiply us

And provide us abundantly in the New Year.

Amen!"
